EU Horticulture Project: Market News Sep week4 2021

FCI provides market information on a weekly basis for 13 commodities amongst them focus horticultural crops which the project focuses on. The data is collected in 8 markets namely: Nyabugogo, Ntunga, Kayonza, Kimironko, Nyamata, Ruhuha, Kabarondo and Rwamagana located in Gasabo, Kayonza, Rwamagana and Bugesera districts. Market pricing and price fluctuations are a major factor that smallholder farmers need be informed on and consistently guided on in order to access stable local, regional and international markets.

French beans prices indicate a constant price in Kimironko , Nyamata and Ntunga .

Wholesale prices gathered in the month of September 2021 indicate cauliflower prices at Nyabugogo market increased form 100/0.5kg to 250/0.5kg piece while other markets remained constant at   400/0.5piece.  Chili traded @ 900/kg. French beans fetched best prices in Kimironko @400/kg and least in Kayonza market @120/kg.

 

 

Garlic was traded in bunches of 0.4kg and the wholesale prices ranged between 300-500Rwf/kg across the markets. Gooseberry traded in Nyabugogo market at an average price of 600 Rwf/kg. Onions traded with better prices in Ntunga @850/kg and lowest price recorded @ 500/kg. Further analysis indicated pineapple best wholesale prices were recorded in Nyabugogo market at 535Rwf/1.5kgpiece while red cabbage recorded an average price 350Rwf per 1.5kg head in Nyabugogo market
